T-shirt Design: July 18-25 2024
This one is a two-parter.
Part One: Create your own design for a T-shirt you would wear, using whatever medium you like - marker, crayon, computer, whatever - and show how it would look on a shirt.
Part Two, inspired by a game I was introduced to recently: Quickly draw a picture of anything you like, the more random the better (a hot dog riding a unicycle, a rhino floating on a cloud, whatever). The drawing doesn’t have to be good at all, just fun. Then come up with a random short phrase - again, the more random the better (“Czechoslovakian Bingo Night,” “Clowns for Universal Healthcare,” whatever). Send both to me along with your other submission, and I will mix and match everyone’s drawings and phrases to come up with some unique (and hopefully funny) T-shirt designs.

Prior to a recent trip, I told a friend (and fellow Artpocalypse member) that I planned to get hot wieners at Providence institution Olneyville N.Y. System. She said, “You HAVE to get me a T-shirt from there,” and I thought, “Yeah, I’d like one, too!” Unfortunately, it turned out they don’t sell T-shirts. Bummer. So I made one for this assignment.

The Submissions: (Part Two)
Well, my goodness. Some of you sent phrases. Some of you sent pictures. Some of you sent both. All of you are a little weird.
Below are the results of me mixing and matching your various images and phrases to create what are sure to be this summer’s hit T-shirts. Some of them are better than others, but all of them made me laugh as I was putting them together. Enjoy.
(also, BRB - I’m ordering myself one of each of these now, to wear around town and confuse the hell out of everyone.)
Next Week’s Assignment:
Our local art museum currently has an exhibit on Edward Hopper, highlighting his tendency to depict mundane, everyday life with a sense of loneliness or isolation. For this assignment, make art of your choice that shows a quiet, isolated, mundane part of everyday life.
