Holiday Decorating: November 24-December 1, 2022

The Mission:

This week’s assignment will be due on December 1, so let’s make it about holiday decorating. Some of you may have had your decorations up since September. Others may not do anything until December 24. This will force you to at least do one thing this week. Regardless of what holiday you celebrate (or just “winter” if you don’t celebrate at all), decorate your home for the season in at least one way this week, and show us your festive work. Submit one photo or submit 50 if you end up going a little Griswold.

Picked up a few decor things recently, been working on fiber art gifts(wash cloths) and looked in the attic for some lights. (Unfortunately Bumble of yesteryear isn’t bright like he once was and will need to be replaced.)
Merry Ho Ho Humbug and all that.

This is my first ornament from when I was a wee babe, though I haven’t technically started decorating. The wooden train engine has been sitting on this end table since Christmas 2019 when my wife offered to replace the blue smokestack that was lost during one of the many moves of my life. Maybe Christmas 2022 is the year of the smokestack?

I don't decorate much, but every single year we put up a tree, and every year we play an ornament dating game with some friends who are Christmas-crazy. One of us will share an ornament and the other responds with the ornament that will be joining them on a date. It's childish, but a fun tradition to have when putting up the tree. The ornament on the left is the proposed, the one(s) on the right are the responses, along with the thoughts behind why. We didn't get too far this year.

Next Week’s Assignment:

Last week was about the holiday spirit. This week, let’s embrace the humbuggery.
Take a well-known Christmas carol or other holiday song, and re-write it with plenty of snark and disdain for the holidays. Even if you love the season, there certainly are parts of it you find annoying or stressful. Blow off some steam with an anti-carol and let your inner Scrooge shine.

Due December 8 by 7:00 p.m.
