Jack-o’-lantern: October 20-27, 2022

The Mission:

I recently realized it’s probably been 25 years since I last carved a pumpkin. Let’s get our Halloween on and make jack-o’-lanterns this week. Get a pumpkin, scoop out its guts, carve it in any way you see fit, and light it up for a photo you can submit here.

The Submissions:

Welp. I was attempting to carve a Nicolas Cage pumpkin (the reason why is a story for another day), but it ended up looking more like the love child of Bob Newhart and The March Hare. Points for trying? I’m planning to do a more traditional jack-o’-lantern tonight, so hopefully that’ll make up for this Ralph-Fiennes-gets-stung-in-the-face-by-a-nest-of-bees abomination.

As promised, a more traditional one.

Every year I plan for a fun pumpkin carving design. But when you are drinking all plans go out the window.

Anonymous Frau Redux doing double duty with this submission. My pumpkin is going to work tomorrow for departmental bragging rights (fingers crossed).
“Sy Nice” or “Beat it!” are the names currently being considered by my coworkers.

Next Week’s Assignment:

Concert Poster

Those of you who know me know that I go to a lot of (arguably too many) concerts. In addition to the art of the music itself, one of my favorite things is that most artists I see also sell a concert poster unique to that night’s show, often featuring amazing art. I’ve run out of wall space (and money) from collecting these prints, but I love the art and it’s a great way to remember each show.

For this week’s assignment, create your own concert poster. Could be for a band you love or a fake band you make up. Could be for a show you attended or one you’d love to attend. Decorate however you like, in some creative way. Paint, crayon, computer, actual printing, or whatever medium you choose. Bonus points if the artwork gives a nod to the city or location hosting the concert in some way. Rock on.

Due November 3 by 7:00 p.m.
