Ikebana: May 9-16 2024
Try your hand at Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging. Choose your own pot, vase, or other vessel. Find flowers or other natural elements that speak to you. Arrange them with an eye toward minimalism for more traditional Ikebana, or go wild and create your own style of flower arrangement.

What a challenge!
Our lilacs and fire pokers have gone away. The magnolia is in bloom but blossoms are too high or wind battered. Roses are also wind battered or not open yet. The clematis and lavender are doing great this week. Also blooming down near the highway construction? Thistle.
A nod to Morticia Addams:
(The wind was a bit too strong to continue the shoot on my Home Depot bucket out front.)
A study in purple:
Removing the thistle- leaving just the clematis variations and lavender- made the arrangement less full. The prickly pop of color and texture variation worked well. (Multiple views to appreciate the various blooms.)
Have a super weekend!

Next Week’s Assignment:
Set up a still life arrangement of inanimate objects of your choice. Take a photo of your arrangement to show us what it looked like, then create your own still life artwork, rendering that arrangement in whatever medium you prefer (paint, sketch, collage, etc.)
