Snow: January 2-9, 2025

Where I live, we’re forecasted to maybe see a bunch of snow this week. But, some of you live other places and, let’s face it: weather predictions for this kind of thing are wrong more often than they’re right, so this will be a “media of your choice” assignment, rather than a “make something out of snow” assignment.

Create snow art - art made from snow, art about snow, art about how much you hate snow - whatever. Use any medium you like, from prose to photos to paint to whatever you can imagine, but bonus points if you use actual snow.

The Submissions:

“Seeds Suspended” - by Journal Kurtz

My assistant and I aimed for a traditional approach to the snowman and came away with this minuscule, minimalist beauty.

“They could eat all they wanted, for maple syrup never hurt anybody. There was plenty of syrup in the kettle, and plenty of snow outdoors. As soon as they ate one plateful, they filled their plates with snow again, and Grandma poured more syrup on it.

When they had eaten the soft maple candy until they could eat no more of it, then they helped themselves from the long table loaded with pumpkin pies and dried berry pies and cookies and cakes.” - Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder

Work in progress. The snow just started about 1 hours ago in Oklahoma. Some of the flakes can be noted as they float down in the pics.

Next Week’s Assignment:

We haven’t done music in a while, so for this week’s assignment, curate a winter playlist that captures the essence of your winter mood or just features favorites you like to listen to this time of year. Submit a link to your list via Spotify or other app, or just send the titles and artists for me to try to put together and share with the group.

Due January 16 by 7:00 p.m.
