Surrealism: August 31-September 7, 2023
Let’s get weird. Find your inner Dali and create Surrealist art of some kind. You can paint, draw, write, manipulate photos, even create surreal music - whatever medium helps you tap into your strange little subconscious mind and express your own super-reality. Find more info on Surrealism here.
Due September 7 by 7:00 p.m.
The Submissions:
“Somnambulism” or “The Dominion of the Flaming Giraffe” - by Captain Quillard
Pencil drawing, scanned and digitally hand-colored
(Couldn’t decide which color scheme I liked best. Original is clearer, but almost felt like a children’s book to me, so I added a version with a more nightmarish tone.)
(Flaming giraffe inspired by a painting that hangs in the Chicago Institute of Art - “Inventions of the Monsters” - which always catches my eye when I’m there.)
by The Kilsigliere
“Grooming” - by Journal Kurtz
Next Week’s Assignment:
Create a “mix tape” (playlist) using Spotify or some other service that allows you to share music. (If you don’t have access to such a service, just give us the song titles and artists in order so we can find them ourselves.) Your playlist can have a unifying theme, or just be a collection of songs you love and want to share. Give us a link to the playlist where we can listen to it (if you can), and a list of the tracks and artists. Bonus points if you feel inspired to create an image or artwork to go with it.
