Ocean Art: May 30-June 13 2024
This is self-serving, since I’m in Rhode Island this week, but let’s see you channel your inner Winslow Homer or Willem Dafoe in The Lighthouse and give us your best moody, ocean-themed art. Any medium you like - just make art that represents the ocean in some way. (And you’ll have two weeks, not one, to do it this time.)

WIP: My grandpa grew up on the water in Erie and with his brothers was always skiing, sailing, boating. When I was little my grandparents always sailed, and the older I got, the fancier the boats got. By the time I was an adult, they had upgraded to a small yacht, a Monk trawler, and spent part of the year living in their boat.
After my grandpa died, I found the photo this drawing is based on. I’m guessing it was taken sometime in the 70s and he has such a Steve Zissou look about him - in the photo he has a break yellow slicker on that looks like a stereotypical sea captain. It’s one of my favorite photos of him.

Next Week’s Assignment:
Honor Father’s Day by choosing one of two art options about your father or a father figure in your life: You may either write an ode to your father (figure) or create a portrait (realistic or abstract) of him.
