Shakespearean Spotify: January 19-26, 2023

Take a modern-day song, and re-write it as a sonnet. The song can be any genre you like - pop, country, rap, commercial jingle, whatever - but this will work best if it’s a song that’s fairly well known. Brush up on your Elizabethan language skillz and transform it into something Billy himself (or Francis Bacon) might’ve penned. For bonus points, reverse the assignment and turn a Shakespeare sonnet into a modern-day song!

The Submissions:

“The Humpty Dance” as a sonnet - by Captain Quillard

For bonus points…

Shakespeare Sonnet 18 - “Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer’s Day?” - to the tune of “Summertime” by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince - by Captain Quillard

Next Week’s Assignment:

This week, pair up with someone (another Artpocalypse participant, or someone else you know). Each person takes five photos - can be photos of anything, but this will work best if they’re photos of people, situations, etc., where something is happening. Each person also writes five random photo captions (unrelated to the photos they took, and without seeing the photos the other person took). Give the other person your captions. Each person then matches the captions they received to their own photos as best they can, where they seem to fit best or more humorously. Submit your photos matched with the other person’s captions.

Due February 2 by 7:00 p.m.
