Using a very broad definition of clothing as adornment, and jewelry is also adornment-here are some friendship bracelets crafted by some 40-something women last weekend. To add to the authenticity, these beads were purchased at a “bead store”, from a lovely woman who shared that she sold 300 bracelets in one day when Taylor Swift played Cincinnati. -The Kilsigliere

Well, I tried, but it’s a work in progress.

For the last month, I’ve been coughing and sneezing and blowing my nose, thanks to whatever crud is going around.
There’s not always a tissue around when you need it, so I present to you an impractically practical solution: The Kleenex Jacket.
Shown above as it was being made, and to the right during the approximately 2.5 seconds I was able to wear it and snap a photo before it fell apart. (unfortunate, because I had planned to wear it to work today for bonus points)
(Not lost on me as I was creating sleeves out of Kleenex: the fitting homage to my grandmother, who always kept used Kleenexes in her sleeve.)

Recently in a message thread with friends I admitted I was flexing my yarn working muscles to expand my stitch repertoire. A hat, scarf, mittens, cowl, or wash cloths were some of my staple gifts to loved ones and new friends.
Recently met an older lady who was rather self conscious about her thin hair and scalp related to skin cancer treatment. I gifted her a couple hats, made a few more hats and last week she asked if I could manage a new item. Hmm- intrigued? Yes! Agreed to take it on and she provided some yarn.
The challenge began with the yarn. Using dark colored yarn requires patience because it can be difficult to see the stitches. Good light is a must and careful attention- including taking off the trifocals to concentrate.
Rather than knit, which would stretch too much for the project, I found a crochet stitch to produce a strap or belt with only a small amount of stretch.
What you see below is the crochet thermal stitch. It’s thick and quick! Perfect to hold a favorite long cardigan together on the chilly day for my new friend. (Belt photo taken in filtered morning light to appreciate the pattern, also with my pink coat for contrast and approximate fit.)
Although I don’t get extra points for use in public, I’m claiming them for flexing my stitch muscles in crochet. It’s not my usual media.
Stay warm wherever you are.

I started.
It’s not working.
I don’t have time for a Plan B.

Next Week’s Assignment:
We haven’t done cooking as art, yet, and winter is the perfect time for soup. Some of us are making the same ones on rotation these days, and could use a new recipe. This week, make soup - either an old favorite recipe or something new you invent - and share both a photo of your creation and the recipe so we can all steal it and add it to our winter meals lineup.
